RE: March Travel

Thanks folks... I like the Utah route Busskipper. I'm bound to make that run someday... but with the feedback I received here and escapees I suspect it won't be this March... Guessing I'll be use airlines to get Montana. Think I'll leave the coach in TX during that part of the trip and when I get back take it up to Vegas. Kind of figured that March would be a little sketchy but was hopping you all wore rose colored glasses.... thanks again

RE: Opinion on sewer hose-- Dominator or RhinoFlex???

I have only used the Rhino. Bought those 1st week we had coach to replace the rather thin cheap ones that it came with. No issues. But would note that they have a slightly larger outside diameter than average and do not fit into the hose storage chute on our coach. Still mucho better than alternatives I've seen

March Travel

I’m starting to think through our general plans (locations) for the first half of 2009.
January – February
Southern Texas, New Mexico & Arizona
March 1st
Take 3-4 days traveling from the Southwest to Denver for a 3-4 day visit with friends… looks like I-25.
March 7th
Take 2-4 days traveling to Bozeman MT area. Looks like more I-25
March 25th
After a couple weeks in Montana we’d head south to Vegas. Looks like all I-15
I guess the question is are Interstates 25 and 15 and relevant connections really a place you’d want to be driving in March? What might we expect? How much will snow or freezing conditions be an issue?

RE: Driving and RV

I think the inaugural drive of a big RV is something that doesn't get as much air time here as it deserves. Our first trip from Tampa to Boston had the same affect on us. Damn some people can do it without thinking twice but I'm one who had to struggle. A year later and two trips to the body shop and I'm starting to feel more confident. Mmmm guess it's time I became a real RV'er and started towing the Cherokee.

RE: Should I Pull Ahead My Purchase of a Diesel Coach?

A 2009 Foretravel similar to my 2007 is almost $200,000 more at MSRP. Yet no doubt it is a buyers market. These might be reasons to buy early...
but I would wait.
I'd rather buy when the market is on the way up not down. Who knows what way cool technology or features will be standard in 2010. AND most important who knows what might change in your life in the next 12-24 months. You may end up with very good reason(s) to NOT want a motorhome next year and that would be an expensive mistake.
BUT I sure would get my future choice tightly defined. If you go for a 1-3 year old high quality brand the 2008 that sells new this week might be a steal for you in 18 months. If you end up with a brand like Foretravel on your list and you realize they only build about 3 units per month well you can imagine that finding the right unit involves time and patience.
Don't rush the search... half the fun is getting there. Once you own it you have real work to do.
Good Luck

RE: Roadmaster VS. Spartan???

Yes drive them both and perhaps some others but I think ride is only part of the chassis selection process.
A Spartan chassis is a foundation for another manufacturer to build a house on. Each manufacturer's approach is a bit different as is their engineering, material selection and build quality.
A Roadmaster chassis also includes an extended frame - steel sidewalls and roof beams. This is also true of Country Coach, Foretravel, Prevost and others.
True or not my perception was/is that the manufacturer that designs and builds the chassis and house are better positioned to build a more robust product.

RE: Awning and wind?

Ours has a built in sensor it was initially set at minimum wind... which meant if you walked by the coach the darn thing would retract. Contacted Girard and followed their manual by setting sensor to 22 MPH... but having seen them flap around pretty intensely think I'll be dialing that back to around 18 MPH

RE: A Good Deal, or A GREAT Deal?

I don't know how much if any credence to put into the term "lot rot" but wouldn't be shocked if a 2006 model was on the lot around June 2005 that would imply it's been sitting 3 years.
A lot has been written about how units that get used with some regularity tend to have fewer problems than those that sit in storage.
.... On the other hand it sounds like the unit is a good match for you and the price is at least VERY good if not Great.

RE: OOPS!!!! Boo Boo #1

We've owned our coach just over a year.
Hit a Stop Sign doing a 37 point turn ($637) Tree branches, Snow Bank, Guard Rail ($2100) lucky they were all on the same side. Also paid $200 for driving lessons... lot of good they did.

RE: Big Delays-I40 & 81 from TN to MD Weekend of June 12

I saw several of those wind turbine blades traveling I-20 a few weeks back in Texas. They are long but not wide. They put two on each load.
Leaving Knoxville Saturday AM... Glad I'm going South down 75. But Maybe we'll get a peak

RE: Seeking Help with Purchase Decision

The OP's question is a good, and it's one that many of us asked ourselves before our 1st purchase.
Hence all the answers are good because the variables are relentless.
So for feedback that can go deeper I have to agree most with those asking questions like: How do you plan to use it? How long? What's older? What's newer?.
The more insight the more the answers will be more consensus like.

RE: Why do you prefer a Class A over a 5 wheel?

I think MH folks differ from 5th wheel folks in that MH people are not destination vacation campers, but traveling campers... we like the readily available amenities without much set-up work, because we don't plan on staying more than one or two nights at most.
yes !

So when we say 50 Amp

So when we say 50 Amp... do we really mean three air conditioners?
Anytime I fire up all 3 units I tend to draw more like 55-56 amps. This with very little of anything else going. Wouldn't dare turn on the microwave or coffee maker.
Assuming the CG breaker doesn't go... is there any safe amount of headroom?
Can I draw an extra 10% or am I about to spontaneously combust?

RE: A better way to direct TV

Did not intend to start another DirectTV vs. Dish dialog.
What I'm looking for is best way to get signed up for service. I called the telephone number on the website went through all the voice mail instruction and then the live person had me call another number because for an RV application she couldn't help. I continued to get bounced around through multiple numbers with no resolution. I kept very cool and polite thru the process... Finally asked for a supervisor but after holding 5-10 minutes I just quit.
I just wanted to sign up for a program where I would send them money every month in exchange for sat tv service. Was hoping someone here had the magic telephone number or password that would get me connected to the right department.

RE: Atlanta Ga Campgrounds for Full Timer

I've been using Lake Lanier Islands. Sites are woodsy, mostly dirt (some gravel) and limited to 30amp but if that doesn't make you run away... the staff is very nice, they have an equestrian center, golf courses, hotels, water park, wellness center, and more in the development.... all this but the CG remains nicely quiet

A better way to direct TV

We have HD sat dish and receiver on the coach but had never activated. Thought I'd make DW's day and order the service from Direct TV. Spent 1.5 hours on the phone. Was advised to call a different number 5 times.... no kidding 5 times. Enough******over that 90 minutes that I gave up... The last place they directed me to was KVH website and click "where to buy" but that's all hardware. Any ideas.
